Rediscover: Alexi Murdoch

The first time I heard Alexi Murdoch, my first thought was that Nick Drake had been reincarnated and that made me quite happy. Since then, I've enjoyed listening to his quiet, contemplative music and am looking forward to another release hopefully soon. According to some recent photos on his Instagram, he's been recording. That, too, makes me quite happy.

Discover: The Record Company

Today's Discovery is The Record Company -- a three-piece Blues/Rock band from LA. You might not find anything overly surprising or mind blowing here, but you will find some solid blues rock; and as the title of their most recent EP states, it "Feels So Good".

Five For Friday: Dylan

Bob Dylan has been influencing musicians for years, and rightly so. Here are five artists/bands from very different areas of music that have all found something in common in Dylan.
Have a good weekend!

Rediscover: The Flaming Lips

I think what I like most about The Flaming Lips is that you never really know what they're going to do. I won't be one to say that I like everything that they do, but I really like their fearless exploration of music and how it can be created. Plus, you've got to admire anyone who uses the tape decks of a bunch of cars in a parking deck to perform a piece of music.
Here is one of their less-weird videos. They have a couple that are more less weird, but I like this song. If you're prone to seizures, you might want to skip this one... seriously.

Discover: Stone Jack Jones

I came across Stone Jack Jones the other day and I have been enchanted and haunted by the songs on his latest album, "Ancestors" since then. If you're looking for something a little bleak and different than what you're used to, you'll find it here. I'm still absorbing this album and I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

Five For Friday: Good Songs For Good Friday

These songs don't necessarily have anything to do with Good Friday, but they do all have the word "good" in their titles.
Have a good Friday and a great weekend!

Rediscover: Molly Parden

Speaking of my pal Molly, I've been listening to her quiet, relaxing tunes for a handful of years now. She moved from Atlanta to Nashville a while back and seems to be doing mighty fine for herself and I'm mighty proud.

Discover: Joseph LeMay

Tooling around the internet (noisetrade.com specifically), I came across Joseph LeMay. Nice, laid back, folky tunes here. And as an added bonus, my pal Molly just happens to be singing BGVs.

Rediscover: Over The Rhine

Over The Rhine's songs are comfortable and familiar like a warm blanket on a cool Winter's night or a faithful, childhood dog lying it's head on your lap after you've had a long and terrible day. Any time I revisit them I wonder why I ever stopped listening to them.

Discover: Leagues

Some music just makes you feel good. Leagues makes you feel good. Kind of reminds me of a more happy Band of Horses or The Damnwells (vocally especially). I think their website describes it pretty well. "What LEAGUES creates is ethereal, joyful music that explodes the senses and challenges the mind."

Five For Friday: Last|First

This weeks songs were all selected and ordered by song title: the last word of the previous song being the first word of the following song.
Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Rediscover: Tom Waits

When you're drowning in an ocean of perfectly polished pop music, grab ahold of the lifesaver known as Tom Waits. You may at first feel disoriented and seasick, but give it time... You'll be glad you did.

Now, in the words of Monty Python, "And now for something completely different."
